Passkey

You cannot lose your passkey. You should treat this passkey as you would a private key. Support will not be able to help you recover your passkey if you lose it.

Thunder is migrating to a new passkey-based wallet system. We will be rolling out this feature fully in the coming days and will be required for all users to have. For now, you can start this migration process by setting your passkey. We highly recommend you add your passkey to your mobile device or an app like 1Password so you can easily unlock trading on both desktop and mobile devices.

You need bluetooth enabled to use mobile device authenticators on Windows. If thats unavailable we recommend using a password manager like 1Password or Bitwarden to store the passkey across devices.

Passkeys are a secure method of authentication, generated within the user's secure hardware.

- They offer a seamless experience due to their integration with native browser interfaces and the ability to sync across devices.

- Apple and Google provide native support for passkey recovery through iCloud Keychain and Google Password Manager, respectively.

The security benefits of passkeys are significant:

- They are protected by operating system-level biometric systems such as Face ID, Touch ID, and screen lock patterns.

- Passkeys are uniquely tied to the domain that issued them, making it highly effective against phishing attacks. Unlike passwords, which can be stolen by fake websites, passkeys remain secure due to this domain binding.
